I found this website whilst looking for information on the steamer Bordein which appears in the 1966 feature film Khartoum. The film was shown today on Channel 5 television and I have not seen it since I was at school 40+ years ago. I am interested in historical steam projects, and I am very pleased to read of the initiatives to restore Melik and Bordein, and wish all involved every success. Cheers Keith

Mr Mel Gould

I have searched the internet for pictures of the 'Regimental Calling Cards' the regimental cap badges carved on the hilsides at Gebeit, Sudan. I can see them on Google Earth so I know they are still there. Can Anyone help? Mel Gould

I only just stumbled onto this site, and had never heard of the initiative before. It is great to hear that such aspects of our heritage are finally being given the care they deserve, and opening them up to the public.
I wish that perhaps this initiative could extend beyond the steamboats and even beyond khartoum. our heritage needs saving before it is forgotten.

I am researching diaries from a botanical collecting expedition in 1933-34 round Sudan. One of the three men was my relative, James E. Dandy. In 2007 I visited Khartoum; I retook Dandy's photos, found where he had stayed, and met two people whose relatives had met him in 1934. I tried to find the location of Clergy House but could not. Please does anyone know the street name or location of the original Clergy House and Supper Club?

I am a citizen from Gebeit, eastern sudan, where the RAF was stationed. I read the memories with great interest. The swimming pool, the hospitsl are no longer there. We, people from Gebeit, used to play football against the army. Some times we won. My uncle Ali is being mentioned by some. He has passed 20 years ago.
